For many Americans, summer is a time of travel. A time to appreciate our magnificently blessed country, spending time away from the cares of everyday life with loved ones and friends. For Lincoln’s urban youth, summer is a very critical time. It can be a dangerously unattended time for many. Away from the structure of school life, the opportunities to do nothing foster a fertile environment for all sorts of unhealthy and often anti-social behaviors. At City Impact, we want to do more to change this situation. Thankfully, together, we have a great opportunity to meet part of this need and make a life-changing difference this summer through the encouragement of Kids Across America (KAA) Camp in Missouri.

Kids Across America Camp exists to build leaders by encouraging, equipping and empowering urban youth and their mentors through Christian Sports Camping.

Ultimately, the first part of KAA’s mission statement is a near perfect match to the aspiration of City Impact’s mission for Lincoln’s urban children and their families. The best part is, in many cases, this weeklong adventure is the single greatest opportunity all year to break down walls and reach the youth. Most of our volunteer lay staff mentors will testify to the truth the youth ‘bring their guard down’ when engaged in even the most mundane, boring extracurricular activities. Thankfully, KAA camp is the divine opposite of mundane! KAA is basically a week of fun and carefree joy connecting youth to God, their peers and mentors! Away from the often troubled cares of everyday life, the opportunities to grow abound at KAA Camp. For the youth, this camp is so important they are willing to make a sacrifice and provide the City Impact required co-payment of $15.
